Do I have a treat for you today! Not only did I get to sit down with USA Today author Erin Lee in an exclusive interview, but I get to tell you about her newest book as well. Mosaic Monsters is fresh from the press and ready for your library now! And that’s not all! Erin has her hands in several books releasing this month, not only as a publisher, but as a co-writer. She has many plates and balances them amazingly well.
Today we are sitting down with Erin Lee to talk about too many titles to list and what makes her tick.
So, you’re a horror author. When did you first realize you loved horror? When I was about ten and a babysitter let me watch Jaws.
(Interviewer interrupts: I saw this when I was four, then we went to Los Angeles to visit my grandfather. Guess who wouldn’t get in the water? You guessed correctly.)
There are so many different types of horror, how do you decide what to write? I’m a therapist so psychological horror is the most natural for me. A background in forensic psych helps with that.
(Interviewer interrupts: Incidentally psychological horror is my absolute favorite type.)
What is the hardest part of writing horror for you? The gore and the nightmares that follow.
(Interviewer interrupts: Glad I’m not alone!)
Do you dress up for Halloween? Do you go all out with the haunted graveyard, smoke, and creepy music for trick or treaters, or do you just like the candy?Halloween is my favorite season of the year. My normal home décor looks similar to what others would do for Halloween. I do it all.
(Interviewer is packing and moving to Erin Lee’s house.)
Has becoming a horror author made you more afraid or less afraid of the world around you? Less. It helps me deal with TRUE horror I see and hear about in my day job. No fiction can ever be as horrific as the real dark issues I hear about every day.
(Interviewer interrupts: Tell Tale heart is my favorite Poe story.)
Do you listen to music while you write? No. I write in silence but I do it by candlelight.
And finally, what three pieces of advice would you give a fledgling horror writer? Pave your own way. Don’t try to force a story. Let the details for the terrorizing. Never leave those out.
has been running to or from something for as long as she can remember. After the loss of her younger brother, she’s medicated her heartbreak through cutting and acting out with men—the only time she can really feel since his untimely death. Addicted to pain and the thrill of adventure, she bounces in and out of her family home, seeking answers she never seems to be able to find. Always testing. Always coming up short.
only hoped to save her the night he came upon a redheaded girl and her friends being assaulted by a monster. He never expected to find himself locked down, taking orders from the woman, whose freckles he has memorized, in order to save her. But it happened, and he can’t make sense of it. Nothing ever makes sense. Especially not his toxic connection to Jazz.
When the quirky couple decides to begin again with a new adventure, all bets are off. Together, they push each other’s limits, resulting in a horrific night with a stranger called Toy that changes everything…
