Day 4 brings a new book release from this bestselling series for your #TBRlist. I also had the pleasure of interviewing the author. Have a look.
The Interview
Today we are sitting down with Linda Bloodworth to talk about A Raven’s Revenge and what makes her tick.
So, you’re a horror author. When did you first realize you loved horror?
Oh gosh, probably since I was a kid. I’m fairly certain I should have been supervised more, but I ended up watching Killer Clowns from Outer Space at a young age and that kinda got me on the horror kick. Then I discovered Tim Burton and I couldn’t stop reading vampire books as a middle grade kid. It spoke to me unlike romance, unlike contemporary books, I just wanted more.
Have you ever met a ghost or had a paranormal experience?
My husband told me this story and it freaks me out. Apparently, one night, I was fast asleep, and he had gotten up to go to the bathroom. While he was in there, he heard this kitchen stool scrape along the tiles. The stool is in front of these double French doors to block the cats from going into the laundry room. There was no way I did it, or the cats, as we were all asleep. What the heck was pushing outwards from the laundry room? We never did find out.
What is the hardest part of writing horror for you?
Trying not to push too far. I’d like to avoid writing gore, but sometimes it creeps out.
How far do you go on Halloween?
Oh gosh, I’m a lazy horror lover, I just watch Donnie Darko and eat candy.
Does your ability to write horror impact your ability to enjoy other horror books and movies?
Nope. There are much better writers than me out there and I’m happy to enjoy their work.
If you could only own one horror book for the rest of your life, which book would you pick?
The Stand. Such a good story.
(Interviewer interrupts: This is my #1 favorite horror book, too. I totally agree with you.)
Do you listen to music while you write? What’s on your horror playlist?
It depends, but while I was writing A Raven’s Touch, I listened to “Possum Kingdom” by the Toadies on repeat for hours. Then “Angel with a shotgun” by the Cab. Also, “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin.
What’s been your favorite part about writing your books so far?
Justice and Moira! I absolutely love these two. No matter what, Moira is there to throw down and back up Justice. Justice has matured and she’s truly becoming a hero stepping up to the scariest challenge. The love between the two of them is so fun to write. They’re in sync with each other and even though they’re growing up, they’re still each other’s number on priority. Who wouldn’t love a ride or die friend?
A Raven’s Revenge places your characters in hell, what was the hardest part to write about their journey?
No character is safe in A Raven’s Revenge. It was very painful to write the scenes where the main characters are hurt. I honestly had to take a breather after what I did to Moira. Please don’t hate me.
And finally, what advice would you give a fledgling horror writer?
Write your dreams because there’s nothing more original than what your imagination comes up with when you’re sleeping.
